Yup, that’s right, Lily’s checkin’ out the new doorstop and it’s a
doozie. An uninteruptible power supply. Battery’s dead, a new
one costs more than a whole new better unit, yadda yadda,
blah blah blah. It’s quite heavy, too. Should hold much better than
that old DAT machine. :-)

Lily, mild mannered cat by day, vicious throat ripping animal
murderess by night.

and conversation on the veranda.

This is one of our neighborhood cuties chomping on a sunflower
seed. We spend 8 months out of the year on our deck/office
and the wildlife doesn’t seem to mind at all - in fact they seem
to enjoy posing. This Cardinalis cardinalis or Northern Cardinal
female and her hubby usually lead the bird feeder charge each
morning. We’re an upscale bird restaurant with songbird food
from Kroger. Haha.

. . . yes it has, since posting that is - I mean the yard work
is never ending but things are slowing down a little. So here’s
a picture of Lily, our cat who many of you have met, though
probably not at the Labor Day Party because she likes her
visitors a few at a time. She knows we have something good
to eat inside and she wants some . . . :)
The Measure of Christmas
Christmas is measured by the length
Of the string of Christmas lights
Untangled at the beginning
Of the Season.
It is measured by the temperature
Of the hot rum cinamon cider
In the one hundred cup
Coffee maker.
It is measured by the density
Of the traffic up at the mall
On the last Saturday
Before Christmas.
It is measured by years in passing fads:
Brag sheets stuck in Chrismas cards,
Pre-made icicle lights
Blow-up snowmen.
It is measured by the twenty-two pounder
Stuffed tight with three loaves of bread,
Onion, celery and sage
Baked golden brown.
It is measured by how much warmer you feel
Even when it’s a blizzard out there,
In the arms of love, under
The mistletoe.
It is measured in the welcome pleasure of good will,
Whether for all the lofty reasons
Or the commerce of it all,
The will’s still good.

Flashback to a time of long hair and the ability to walk all over an
entire city for days on end.
In case I haven’t kept up with posting the latest Manuscripts or
Transcriptions, here’s what’s currently on-hand for downloading…

Yes, I scanned a ruler. It was always sitting there in a little cup on
the desk and I don’t think I ever knew it how old it was. I do now,
as can be seen on the back

Found a couple more pics of Buddy. This one from the 2003
Carols, I’m thinkin “Please Daddy Don’t Get Drunk This Christmas.”
This one from the ‘02 Carols and we’re thinking “Two Turtle Doves”
for the 12 Days of Christmas Choir - that’s Buddy on the right.
Close-up from above pic.

In Memory of Buddy McEwen - pictured here between Steve
Edmundson and Jimmy Ogle at the hook of the bar at Kudzu’s.
Last year he was Twelve Drummers Drumming at the Kudzu’s
Christmas Carols- we think maybe we’ll make everybody sing
that part REAL loud so he can hear it way up yonder.
We sure will miss Yodelin’ Bud.

…to 1996, Salem Beer Works, mid-October. OK, this 10 year
Kudzu’s anniversary has gotten me digging through old pics. This
is what happened after I was arrested for singing out of tune…

… the great thing was that I had an ashtray within reach. Anybody
got a cigarette. And could you light that for me…
Finally getting a higher resolution video of You Don’t Believe Me up here.

OK - it’s been a long time since the last entry but I’ve started
redesigning the website and playing bunches of gigs. Life is
wonderful and this little doorstop is wonderful too. It’s a con-
sumer DAT machine (digital recorder that stores info on tape)
and I’m thinkin’ that it’s not worth a $50 bench fee + parts
(if you can even get them) to fix the tape transport and door
which only opens once in a while and only after you first turn
it on as the lever under the tape saddle gets all the way to the
left AND before it starts going back to the right. Heck for $75
you can get a line-in mp3 player/recorder with no moving parts.
It was a great machine for a long time - recorded many fine
gigs, Labor Day jams, Carols and mastering projects. It’s
a doorstop now but I’ll always remember my first digital
recorder (sniff, sniff).

A friend’s dad had this great 45/EP he couldn’t play so we put it
on CD for him and copied the jacket for the CD case. Design by
the late, great Cordell herself.

Yes, it’s been a busy week. No I didn’t post anything till now. That
said, here’s to the cheesy preacher on the Today Show wedding.
He’s even name dropping Woody Allen - not exactly a marriage
role model. Ha ha, I’m cracking myself up. ***

Taking hundreds of pictures is tiring work especially in near hundred
degree temperatures. What better way to relax than sitting in the
shade listening to other people get hot. This photo of Dan the Man
by Linda Young who also took hundreds of photos at the party.

Wednesday just didn’t happen…well it happened but it didn’t. It
didn’t happen but it did. Maybe it will happen next week. Maybe it
won’t. Thank heavens Thursday is happening… …Pictured above
is a view of the jammers and partyers at the Labor day party/jam.
